Once in a lifetime

The Japanese believe that the strong bonds of love between parents and
their children are enhanced and strengthened by the blessings brought by
the Aka-Chan Fude. Parents will only ever have the one chance to cut and
keep their baby’s first hair, which has never been touched by scissors.
By creating an Aka-Chan Fude, from this hair, parents are invoking the
good fortune and blessings of happiness, health, intelligence and a prayer
of everlasting and unchanging love to be visited upon their child.

The history of the protective box of the
Aka-Chan Fude,
made from Paulownia Wood. |
Koubundo, is proud of the fact that the protective box of their Aka-Chan
Fude is made from wood harvested from the beautiful Paulownia tree, which
is ecologically sustainable. For centuries the Japanese people have used
this wood to protect their fine ceremonial clothes, works of art and precious
jewels. The wood is light and soft, yet deceptively strong. It has great
protective properties against heat and fire, not becoming brittle when
heated. The Paulownia tree is fire resistant up to approximately 420 deg.
centigrade whilst the Pine can ignite at approximately 240 deg. centigrade
Unlike many other trees the Paulownia regrows in only twenty years, as
opposed to the Japanese Cedar which takes (80 years) and the Japanese Pine
(40 years). |
